How Unblock system works

When your device connects to the Internet it does so using an IP address. This number is needed in order for your device to communicate and connect to websites and services. You automatically get an IP via your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Your IP will give away your location. For an example we can see that your IP is 54.166.250.213 and you are currently located in United States.

Websites and services that use geographic restrictions will use this info to deny you access if you are located outside the supported area or if you are in a blackout zone (used for sports broadcasting).

The Unblock All DNS service will make sure that the geographic detection systems used by the 218 services we support does not see your real IP address. Instead the service you are trying to use will see the IP of our servers.

Unlike traditional VPN tunnels we only redirect the traffic responsible for geographic detection. Not only does this mean that there is no slow down of your connection but all your regular services like your online banking etc. will still see your normal location. An added benefit is that you can appear in multiple locations at the same time.

Difference between Unblock All and VPN
Some users have Unblock All confused with a VPN service, which we are not. We are a DNS service and you don’t get a new IP address when using Unblock All (like you would with VPN). All services have a list of pros and cons. Please see the list below to understand why Unblock All is the right choice for 9 out of 10 users.

VPN Pros
Can unblock any service in the country you connect to.
All traffic is encrypted.
Can bypass most ISP restrictions such as DNS hijacking and transparent proxies.

VPN Cons
Can only make you appear in one country at a time.
All traffic is throttled trough VPN server, which means your speed will drop significantly.
Only works on computers, tablets, phones and routers with special firmware.

Unblock All Pros
Only DNS traffic related to geo location is sent to the needed location. Everything else works as it normally would with the DNS from your ISP.
No speed reduction.
Works on all devices including Computers, Apple TV, Roku, Smart TVs, Gaming Consoles, Phones, Tablets and any router.
Unblock services from several countries at the same time.
Does not have to be switched on and off.
Does not interfere with local services such as your online banking etc.
Your traffic remains unchanged. Encrypted traffic remains encrypted and unencrypted remain unencrypted. Just like when you use the DNS from your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

Unblock All Cons
Unblock All selected services and not all websites in a given country.
A few ISPs and hotels use transparent proxies and DNS hijacking, which interferes with DNS. Please see this list and this article.
For most users Unblock All is a “set and forget” service meaning that once you have configured your device or router you don’t need to do anything else. VPN on the other hand is a tool you need to enable/and disable and reconfigure all the time. Although VPN does work for some tasks it's not suited for unblocking of streaming services. This is why Unblock All is the right choice for 9 out of 10 users.
